Asher Schechter is a writer and editor based in Washington, DC and New York City. He mostly covers issues related to the intersection between politics and the economy, such as antitrust, corruption, lobbying and social movements. He currently works as an editor for Project Syndicate. Before that, he worked for the Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as a writer and editor of the blog ProMarket.org. He is also a political columnist for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz-TheMarker, where he was previously a senior features writer. He is a World Economic Forum Global Shaper (New York Hub).
As a writer and editor, he has worked across countries and media platforms. He is the author of Rothschild: The Story of a Protest Movement (2012, Hakibbutz Hameuchad—Sifriat Poalim Publishing Group), a nonfiction book covering Israel's social protests of 2011. He is also the author of Israeli Politics 2013: Movers and Shakers Unmasked, an e-book composed of profiles of Israeli politicians originally published in Haaretz. He previously hosted The Cost of Doing Business, a twice-weekly podcast about business and economics in Israel.
